History Walk Provides a Way To Explore SF Japantown
The San Francisco Japantown History Walk

An addition to the streetscape of San Francisco's Japantown provides visitors and residents alike with insight into the community's first hundred years of history and culture. The San Francisco Japantown History Walk is a self-guided tour consisting of 16 interpretive signs along an approximately 10-block route through the heart of Japantown. The project, which was led by the JCCCNC, is a permanent public display featuring historically and culturally significant landmarks in the community. This cultural heritage tourism program will take visitors on a self-guided walking tour, led by informative plaques and interpretive signage.

White House Recognizes SF's Japantown
Preserve America - Japantown

The White House has officially recognized San Francisco 's Japantown as a Preserve America neighborhood. Eight Preserve America signs have been placed by the City and County of San Francisco along Sutter and Buchanan streets, Post and Buchanan streets and Geary and Buchanan streets facing both west and east bound. San Francisco's Japantown is the first neighborhood in San Francisco to be awarded such a designation. The award recognizes the cultural and historical significance of Japantown. The designation does not carry with it any historical restrictions, and its goal is to designate and promote Japantown as a cultural heritage tourism site.
