Kimochi Lounge
Kimochi Lounge was opened as the first agency site for Kimochi, Inc., in 1971. It was created as a meeting place where the Issei (first generation Japanese Americans) could rest, relax, get the latest news in the community, meet friends and have tea. Kimochi Lounge currently houses a book and video library for seniors. Arts and crafts made by seniors are also available for sale from this location as well as Kimochi logo products. This is also the agency’s new information and outreach site where seniors and families can get resources to help them remain independent and active at home. Information is available on nutrition, health, legal Aspects of aging, family caregiving, and housing.
Kimochi Senior Center and Kimochi Nutrition
Kimochi’s Senior Center activities are offered in San Francisco’s Japantown. The staff and volunteers develop a variety of activities for independent and active seniors including ceramics, exercise, Odori lessons, singing class, arts and crafts, trips, tai chi, hula and cemetery visits. In addirion, Japanese style hot lunches are prepared and served as a part of Kimochi’s nutrition program. All menu items are carefully planned and prepared by our Nutritionist and staff. Regular nutrition education presentations and information are provided to assist participants in maintaining their health and well being. Meals are provided on a first come first served basis. Reservations are taken for senior groups.
